Bringing down the House

I just finished watching the second season of "House, M.D." on DVD, and the last episode is very good. Quite a cut above the rest of the show thus far, and that's saying something. I was extremely impressed.

If you haven't seen it yet, though... don't watch it in the middle of the night by yourself. I might not be getting to bed for a little while yet.

I actually didn't like that episode all that much. The fact that it was "just a dream" made me feel like they'd wasted their time because nothing much got resolved - about five episodes into the third season, everything was back to the original status quo with no sign of any lasting changes from House's personal revelations. Moreover, the sloppy medicine in House's leg still irritates me. While the ketamine treatment could conceivably help with his pain management, it wouldn't restore the lost muscle in his thigh, so it wouldn't let him walk normally.

I won't deny the acting was top-knotch, and the actors did a wonderful job with what they were given. But I don't think what they were given was very good to begin with.

I don't deny that it didn't fit into the rest of the show all that well, but taken on its own and appreciated as a work in and of itself, I think it's fantastic. I don't know anything about the treatment, so I can't offer an opinion on that.
