A weekend of fabulousness

I went to the Berkeley juggling/unicycle festival on Saturday and had a blast, despite the discomfort of knowing very few people there, which is unusual for me at a juggling festival. This is a kid I'd seen at several festivals but only actually met at this one, doing something cool with five balls and a basketball hoop.

Iris was crawling around like a maniac, investigating the props and charming the pants off everyone. At one point, she was holding three beanbags and chewing on two of them; a talented child indeed. This is her with her dad, Ben.

Fred's hair looked awesome, as usual. I dyed mine black on Friday, and was surprised at how few people mentioned it. I was wearing a lot of purple, though, and a guy asked whether Fred and I were dating, an inquiry based solely on a mutual appreciation of the color. Uh, no.

I hadn't seen Keith in years, and it took him a while to recognize me and Cord. He has a kid now, apparently. I sat next to him for the public show. Most of it was pretty eh- not unimpressive, but stuff I've seen before. The act that really wowed me, though, was one I wasn't particularly looking forward to. Vova's acts are usually technically impressive but relatively boring. This time, though, his act was really creative and fantastic. I hope he'll use it again at IJA or something.

The next day, I went into San Francisco to hear Rose's lecture. I had a heck of a time finding the place, and missed the beginning, but the part I heard was very interesting and well-presented. We went out for dinner with a big group afterward, and I met lots of neat people. Then Rose, Francis, Rose's new sweetie Byron and I went to Samovar for tea. I discovered that "Contrecoup," a song off TMBG's new album "The Else," was written at the request of a friend of Rose and Francis, and that this was made by a friend of Rose. Sometimes I can't believe I know people who are this awesome. I didn't get any pictures with Rose on my camera, but Byron got one of the two of us.

I caught a lift back up to Penngrove with Jeanette's parents. We stopped at IHOP (which I just nearly typed as "iHop") and there was a fly in my pancake.

I think I'm going to buy Veronica "The Puzzling World of Winston Breen" for Christmas.

Now I'm back in Penngrove, and officially starting my Pier 1 job in an hour and fifteen minutes...

BEN'S HAIR.

Also, I spy a t-shirt Clive might like...

Oh, you're right! I didn't even think of that. Want me to ask Fred where he got it?

And yes, Ben has him some gorgeous hair.

Sorry- I checked with [livejournal.com profile] neilfred, and it seems that the shirt was made specifically for an event and is not being sold. :/

Whoa! That pancake fly is beyond the pale.

Oh, ICK. I hope they at least comped you!

Thanks for the pictures... I miss everyone! Glad you were able to find Rose... I didn't know Francis was going too!

Sigh. I went to a yarn swap and got rained out, and watched the new Dr. Who. Whee.

Ben is a useful indicator of what [livejournal.com profile] cjwatson would look like if he grew his hair a little longer and got a beard.

And… that may be the simplest Sudoko puzzle I've ever seen. Well, second simplest. (-8
