I just got Brokeback Mountain, Deathtrap, and The Laramie Project for thirteen bucks total. Legit ones with actual covers, not crappy pirated DVDs. Also eighteen single-serving Newman's Own lemonades for $3.50. It was a good grocery store trip. I think maybe I've got some of Grandpa's obsession-with-sales genes.

Have you seen Deathtrap? It is all mystery and murder and surprises and hilarious hijinks and playwriting, plus there is Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine smooching, back when Michael Caine was young enough for that to not be gross. You should watch it. :D

Hey! No ageism! I hope to still be smooching people when I'm 76.

But yeah, great films all!

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Well, me too, but I don't expect teenagers to get hot flashes from watching it. :P

They are all great films, but no one has ever heard of Deathtrap (beats me why!), so I figured that's the one I should pimp.

Whaddaya mean, no one has ever heard of Deathtrap? It's one of the ten movies I actually own a copy of!

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 04:59 am (UTC)(link)
Heh, that's about how many movies I own too. What are the others? I'm trying to guess, and I honestly have no idea what kind of movies you'd be into.

[identity profile] mamagotcha.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Whaaa?! I LOVE that movie, and we've watched it several times... I think you went "Christopher Reeve=Superman=not interested" and missed out.

I first saw it in a theater, and the twist totally caught me off guard. If you're pimpin' it for the story and not just the mankiss, you might consider rewording your pimp without including that twist, just because it was (I thought) so nicely done.

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
The twist was nicely done indeed, and it gets just beautifully meta at the end, but knowing what I said here doesn't really ruin it. I first saw the movie years ago, after I spotted Reeve and Caine kissing in a fanvid and went "wait WHAT?" I don't remember you watching it when I was around; if you ever did, it was long enough ago that I probably wouldn't have been interested.

Michael Caine is too fantastic for him kissing anything to be gross.

Wait until you see Sleuth. He'll blow you away.

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 05:59 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think I've heard of that one. I haven't really watched many new movies since I canceled my Netflix subscription in the spring, but I'll keep the title in mind if I have a chance to see it.

[identity profile] qaqaq.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
"Sleuth" is the best movie ever made for people interested in puzzles and games. And whatever you do, do NOT read or listen to anything about the plot of the movie before watching it. That is seriously important.

[identity profile] qaqaq.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oh -- and this refers to the original Olivier/Caine "Sleuth", not the Caine/Law remake.

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 06:09 am (UTC)(link)
Noted.

That's what I tell people about "À la folie... pas du tout." Yes, it's my favorite movie of all time and everyone must watch it, but I can't say a word about why.

[identity profile] uncanny-npl.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 11:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, "Sleuth" is fantastic. Little-known fact everyone should know: I first saw "Sleuth"--on TV--on the same night I lost my virginity. (The movie was waaaaaaaaaaay better.)

Libraaaaaaaariiiiiiiies....

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't think Clark's library has mainstream movies, and the Worcester public library is too far away for me to walk in this weather and too close for me to justify paying for the bus. :P

Interlibrary loan system requests, you fool!

[identity profile] davehogg.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
I saw a live version of Deathtrap well before you were born, starring David McCallum.

[identity profile] jedusor.livejournal.com 2009-02-06 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I wanna see it live!

[identity profile] rubrick.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure a current-day smooch between them wouldn't primarily be gross on account of Caine.

[identity profile] kaberett.livejournal.com 2009-02-07 02:46 pm (UTC)(link)
It has just occurred to me that you might like Les Choristes.
