Of goats

I walked to the Penngrove Motorcycle Company today to pick up the gloves I'd ordered (isn't it awesome that there's a motorcycle accessories store a mile away from my house?). On the way, I passed a herd of nanny goats in a field by the road. When they heard me coming, their ears pricked up. A couple of them started to walk toward me, and soon all ~20 of them were trotting next to me on the other side of the fence, as if I'd told them to heel. When I came back home, the exact same thing happened.

On the one hand, they obviously expected something from me, presumably food. I feel a little rotten for leading them on, so to speak. I'm still working out my views on animal ownership, and the incident made me a bit uncomfortable.

On the other hand, I feel sorta badass. I have a gang of goat minions at my command. What do you have, huh?

Not food, if they kept following after it was obvious you didn't have anything. Goats are very social and intelligent... they probably wanted to get to know you and play with you. And, of course, obey your orders regarding world domination.

Bought gloves? Does that mean you've got a lead on a cycle?

The gloves are required for the motorcycle safety course, which begins tonight and ends Sunday.

Q hasn't been responding to my IMs- I'll probably shoot her an e-mail after I finish the course. I'd like to get her bike checked out, and talk to her about buying it if the repairs won't be too bad.

I really really REALLY want the black-and-red Kawasaki Ninja my co-worker is selling, but I can't afford anything like what he wants for it. Sigh.

Incestuous rabbits.

Okay, that is also pretty badass.

Hahaha, that's pretty sweet.

In Europe somewhere about eight years back my sister and I managed to get the sheep that were on the other side of the fence to follow us by yelling and running. It was really one of the most exhilarating moments of my childhood.

Goats are wonderful when you get to know them. A few years ago I stayed at an inn down in Cornwall that had a lot of farmyard animals hanging around. The goat was basically a pet. He'd hang around the bar area scrounging crisps off people then curl up in front of the fire and go to sleep. He was completely docile and friendly and toilet trained.
