Note: I forgot to mention the guy at renegade who recited 25 digits of pi while juggling two balls in one hand, sleeping a yo-yo in the other, and tap-dancing.

The Mountain View gang (Megan, Chris, Chris's Megan, Scott, Erica, Dan, Justin, Garth and Olivia) didn't show up until past noon; evidently they had trouble getting going and then traffic and other complications ensued. The first part of the day went relatively slowly, if it's possible for things to move slowly at a juggling festival. Jenna and I made signs to direct people from the parking lot to the gym. I took a belly-dancing workshop taught by Mira, the one who did belly-dancing and juggling for the renegade show. That was really fun. We started in on the six-foot sugar cane I made Jeffrey buy. He didn't think it would be all eaten, but we must have eaten at least two-thirds of it today. Zuriah and Catherine showed up and I talked to them for a while, then we went to Thai Basil for dinner with Celeste, Janette and Janette's kids.

Then was the public show. Before the show started, I called Mom and had everyone in the auditorium say hello to her. I caught her at a bad time, apparently, but it was hopefully worth it. The opening act of the show was Vova Galchenko. A guy and a girl dressed in lab coats dragged him in and put him in a chair, then gave him "medication," which made him perk right up and start juggling. Every time he dropped, they gave him more pills (which turned out to be some kind of candy). Another notable act was the fire act- staff spinning, two kinds of poi, fire swords and some kind of finger extension things that burned green. I got to be a human domino, which was interesting. The Stanford Juggling Research Institute did an act, and Ivan Pacel and Rhys Thomas both performed as well. This isn't going to mean a thing to you unless you're a juggler, and the only jugglers who read this as far as I know were there. Oh well, it's for posterity. The two best quotes from the show, IMO:
"I love kids, I really do. It's just that this one seems to be alive."
"Here's a quarter. Put it under your pillow tonight, and in the morning it will have turned into a nice crispy twenty-dollar bill. If it doesn't, that means your parents don't love you enough."

After the show, I went back to the gym and spent some time hanging out with Justin and Olivia in the workshop hall, then helped them carry stuff out to their car and went to Perry's. My table consisted of Rick, Becca, Eric, Lee, Robert, Henry, Seth and I, so the conversation was generally fascinating. (I will never be able to listen to "Dancing Queen" again. Don't ask.) I absolutely love the Bay Area juggling community; the people are all really smart and talented and fun to be around. I really wish I could live around here again, and see them more than once or twice a year.

What was I about to do? I was about to go do something... oh, yeah! Sleep!
