I sent this to my doctor last week (with certain personal information removed because I'm leaving this public):

Subject: Fitness center membership
Hi, Dr. Murray!
This is Julia (removed), Katje (removed)'s daughter. I came in for a
checkup several months ago- I'm the one with the purple hair, I
don't know if you remember me.
I've been having problems with getting a membership from Penn
Valley, the community college I attend. I'm fifteen, and their age
limit for membership is seventeen. I asked if an exception could be
made, as I'm a student in good standing with an exemplary GPA, and
I was told that a decision would be made shortly. After three
weeks, multiple e-mails and phone calls, and several visits to the
center, I've finally pinpointed the issue. Their age limit is
seventeen because, according to the fitness center coordinator,
that's when most people are far enough into or past puberty that
they are able to withstand exercise enough to safely use the
equipment. (He said something I didn't quite catch about bone
development- I assume you know what he was talking about.) I told
him that I've been menstruating for over three years, and am
clearly not just beginning puberty. He said that he could let me
have a membership if I get a signed note from a medical doctor
stating that! I am "physically able to cope with weight resistance
exercise in an unsupervised setting." (I don't plan to use the
weights at all, but he refuses to believe that I will honor that
promise, even if I and my parents sign an agreement.)
Can you provide me with a statement of that nature, and if so,
will I need to come in for a physical examination? E-mail me back,
or call me. My home phone number is (removed) and my cell is
(removed).
Thank you,
~Julia Newmiller

...and just got this back yesterday:

I do remember you, and I'd be happy to write a letter. I think they
may be worried about potentially disrupting growth plates in
physically immature young people (whose bones may not be fully
developed yet) - this is not a worry with you.
Shall I mail it to your home address?

EDIT: On a completely unrelated note, I just found out that Hershey's chocolate syrup is in fact vegan. That is quite possibly the funniest thing I've heard all day.

Wait. I never posted about that, did I? Yeah, at Davenport IJA, things happened during Renegade, and I ended up drinking an entire bottle of Hershey's syrup. Onstage. Without using my hands. Off Mark Faje's (sp?) stomach. With my stepdad in the audience. And I didn't even barf afterwards.
