I made another icon too, from last week's Metanoia, but am not bothering to make a GIP for it as no one will understand it except Abby.

Yesterday I went to the library mosaic workshop. I'd been working on my candleholder for about an hour and a half when Dan showed up a total mess. His girlfriend dumped him the day of her senior prom. So I spent the afternoon being an ear for him, then got home to discover Rain already there. We went to the party at Chameleon, which was both depressing and fun for me. The depressing part was that pretty much everyone I know from LEARN was there except Sarah, and almost all gave me the cold shoulder, and ignored Rain by default because she was with me. That's really too bad, because some of those kids could be her friends if they bothered to get to know her. Kriss Miller was there too, and actually acknowledged me, albeit in a fashion strongly reminiscent of Carolyn Pajor- tight-lipped smile, no eye contact, etc. That's what I hate most about Kansas City, I think: even if people hate your guts, they still pretend to be nice to you. I get the feeling that Kriss, Carolyn, even the kids to some extent, actually care what I think about them. They want everyone to like them, even the people they don't like. That's fucked up, IMO.

Rain and I, quickly realizing that there was no point in hanging around the LEARN people, went outside and sat on a hill to talk. There was this dog, just a puppy, tied to a tree with a toy and a bowl of water. We played around with him for a while, then introduced ourselves to this chick called Andrea, whose personality was interesting and sweet and yet so, so blonde. She left just as the big show started. Right around then, the rain started pouring down, and Rain and I dashed out to the terrified little dog and stayed there with him. At one point, he got tangled up in the line tying him to the tree and couldn't get loose because he was on a steep incline. A random dude passing by and I got him untangled and moved him (wet and shivering by this point) closer to the building, and Rain and I stayed with him until the big honcho of the Chameleon came out and told us we could take him inside. Somewhere during the course of all this, we found out that the dog belonged to Wolfgang, Clay's film teacher. Wolf, as they called him, is very cool, according to my mom. I wasn't so sure after the dog thing. Who leaves a dog alone, wet, frightened and barking on a hill in the dark? We did meet him, and he thanked us for taking care of the dog, but didn't explain why he brought the poor puppy in the first place. (He was in the show, which is probably why he left him outside, but that doesn't excuse it in my book.)

Anyway, we went back home and stayed up late painting bobble-head dogs and talking. Rain's very cool, I'm glad she's here in KC. She informed me that according to the Bible, mixing fabric types in outfits is right up there with gay sex in the no-no department. I need to look that up, because if it's true, that's utterly awesome. I haven't come across it during my reading for Bible As Lit class, though.

Today was church. We watched the first half of Shawshank Redemption, which was kind of amusing as it's the second movie in a row we've watched at church with a prison rape scene. Some church. Stephan told us what happened to him on a trip to some rugby thing, during which they apparently got lost in Oklahoma and were accosted by mulleted, acne-covered hicks with Bud Lite baseball caps. I just about bust my gut laughing. Then we came home and made her a duct-tape wallet on the roof in the rain (the duct tape actually rolled off the roof at one point, but Bill witnessed its descent and kindly tossed it back up). Then her mom picked her up. Dorothy was supposed to come get me at two to babysit, but it is now 5:48, so I'm assuming that's not happening. I watched Big Fish instead. It wasn't bad, actually. I didn't realize young-Edward was Ewan McGregor until the credits.

I think I've only taken these boots off to sleep and shower since I got them. Heh. Anyway, happy Mother's Day!
