I just got an e-mail informing me that I've been accepted into the psychology honors program--woohoo! So, my classes for next semester:

BIOL 140: Biology of the Brain*
PSYC 142: Sensation and Perception
PSYC 221: Research in Social Psychology (that's the research project I'm doing with Dr. Laird)
PSYC 297: Junior Honors

I'm toying with the idea of applying for a fifth course and taking a seminar in evolutionary psychology. Also, I'm going to see if I can audit a law course on civil liberties. I'm auditing two classes this semester and loving it--it's really amazing how different a course feels when you can forget about grades and focus on learning what you want to learn.

Toying with taking six classes ... whew. But then, I lost track of how many you're taking currently.

I'm only taking four, and auditing two more (although it's supposed to be three, but then the economic crisis happened and Dr. Gendron had other shit to deal with). Auditing really is different. I don't have to do homework or take tests. It's really just showing up, and I've even missed a few to do homework for other classes. Besides, audits don't cost anything, and I'm paying enough money to be here that I feel like I should get as much out of it as possible. Why not have some fun?

Just got an e-mail back from Dr. Valsiner saying he'd let me into the evolutionary psych seminar, though, so I guess I am taking a bit of a load.

Hmm. I knew you didn't get a grade in audited classes, but I guess I always thought there was a little more to it than just showing up. (I also didn't know they were free!)

I gather the rules regarding audits are not standardized between universities, so that might not be the case everywhere. Here, the exact level of work you do is agreed upon between the student and the teacher, and both of the teachers of the classes I'm auditing this semester said I could do however much or little as I like.
