The Mini-Madventure has begun!
May. 27th, 2005 03:05 pmHey, everybody, guess what? I'm not dead!
First thing I need to say: Zephyr ROCKS. This iPod Shuffle is seriously the best (tangible) thing that's happened to me in a long, long time. I am in love.
I'm in Spokane, Washington, visiting Bill's parents and grandmother. Actually, I'm in a small town an hour and twenty minutes away from Spokane called Harrington, of which Bill's dad is mayor. Since I last posted (what, a week ago?) we've been through Iowa, South Dakota (at the border of which was a billboard announcing "We South Dakotians REJECT Animal Activists: Hunting, Fish, Game and Fur Are Our Economy"), Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho. We stayed at KOAs every night except last, which was spent here in Spokane. It was really nice to sleep in a room that did not contain all three brothers and my mom last night.
We got to visit the Petrified Gardens and Badlands National Park in South Dakota, which was cool, Buffalo Bill State Park in Wyoming, where I got attacked by an ant (seriously not cool), and Yellowstone, which was very cool. Expect an enormous picspam as soon as I get back, June seventeenth. I'm keeping a trip journal, so I can provide a running commentary throughout the spam.
Along the road, I've written the first draft of a short story and begun rewrites. The first draft was nine pages, and I'm on the eleventh of the rewrite. I'm really proud of myself- it's the first original piece of writing more than a couple of pages long that I haven't gotten writer's block and abandoned. I think it's actually rather decent, too. We'll see what Mom says when she reads it, though; she tends to be blunt with critiism, so I know when she actually likes or doesn't like something.
I've been on IM a total of roughly an hour over the past week, as the hiptop doesn't get connection very often between cities.
Paul (Bill's dad) just woke up, which means I need to get off the computer. I might be able to update again in Seattle, if my mom and Megan managed to work out a way for us to use their wireless internet. I doubt I'll be able to catch up on my flist, though, so if something important happened to you, please please please leave a comment!
