The first was a tube of toothpaste at the bus stop. It was almost full. I opened it and sniffed- it was definitely toothpaste. If I wasn't still more than 3,000 words behind on [livejournal.com profile] sweaty_nano, I would consider writing a story about why it was there.

The second was a dying firefly I found on the sidewalk on 59th. Its light was flickering on and off. I picked it up and took it home, and the light became bright and steady while it was in my hand. After I showed it to Bill and Clayton, I put it outside in one of the flowerpots, and the light immediately dimmed again.

It was one of those "leave the house at 10 am, come home at 9 pm" days. I ran into Lydia at the corner of Linwood and Broadway, and we went to class together. Today was the staff interview day, when all the new students interview the returning students as an assignment. Last semester, when I was interviewing, I nabbed Kyle. Today, I was interviewed by a guy named Mark. He's quiet in the newsroom, so I hadn't formally met him before today, but he was pretty interesting. Managed to get through the entire interview without having to reveal my age, which is good. I try not to tell people that until they've known me for a while.

I tried to talk to Lisa about the literary magazine, but she didn't have time, and told me to come back Monday. She told me a few weeks ago to approach her at the beginning of the semester, then last Friday she said to talk to her today, so I'm not optimistic about Monday. I hope this doesn't mean she'll have no time for the magazine. I also got Spectrum-related information from admissions and checked out Davin's hissing cockroaches. Truly, they are awesome. They look something like this.

Then I holed myself up in a group study room at the library and wrote from two to three-fifteen, took a break for Subway, and came back from four to six. I've written 10,012 words so far. I should be at 13,336 today, so I'm less behind than I was. I may write more later.

At six o'clock, I went up to the fifth floor for the high school-college transition program recognition ceremony, or something like that. Basically free food and an easy Spectrum story. Everything went well- got quotes, checked names, took notes; I could probably write the story right now, but I'm going to interview people for it next week anyway.

Now I'm off to watch the second disc of "Veronica Mars" with my little brother. Fun fact: did you know that PETA voted Kristin Bell and Prince the "world's sexiest vegetarians"?
