CA Trip, Installment 3
Mar. 15th, 2007 06:38 pmThis first picture is for
truntles.

I know it's got an S too many, but I still thought you might appreciate it, Linda. ;)
On Tuesday night,
palecur and
amywithani picked me up at the BART station and took me to Bombay Garden, where we met up with
xthread, his friend O,
vito_excalibur, and her boyfriend E (who, as far as I know, doesn't have an LJ) for dinner.

xthread presented me with a plate of limes. It took me a moment to realize that it was a reference to the lime I'd been carrying around with me at the party at which we'd met (a reference, in turn, to Neil Gaiman's Anansi Boys), but once I'd figured it out, I was very amused that he'd remembered.

amywithani whipped out a scarf and a hat while we were sitting there. The woman is insane with a crochet hook.
palecur was wearing an awesome shirt that said, "I think better when I wear my favorite socks."

Olga agreed with me that the shirt was awesome... and found a wireless connection, and ordered one.
Remember I mentioned that I stubbed my toe when I was at the beach with
juvernaz?

Jeanette thinks it's broken. I don't think it hurts enough for that (I've barely felt it today), but it sure looks unpleasant. And the toe I hurt was the second-smallest, so I don't know why all the marks are showing up around the next two.
I hung out with
shoutingboy last night, which was fun.

I thought it was hilarious that they not only used the word "sake" on a Chinese menu, but stuck an accent on the E. It makes sense to do that, I guess, because most people mispronounce the word, but it was still funny.
I meant to at least get a picture of Andrew, but somehow never did. (Not to imply that the man's not photogenic!) We went to P.F. Chang's and talked about college mascots and Tolkien over a tasty dinner. I learned a lot about Glorfindel. :P
Today, Jeffrey had a meeting in San Francisco, so Clay and I went in with him and made a day of it. Warning: contains a picture of this week's Onion AV Club crossword, partially completed. (Thought I should mention that, especially what with the Jeopardy! spoiler explosion happening on the NPL-folk mailing list right now.)

I tried to play One, Two, Three on the subway with Clay, but once he'd gone from "fork" and "digestion" to "internal bleeding" (when "food" hadn't been used!), I resigned myself to boredom.

Jamba Juice: the real reason I came back to visit California. Also, my younger brother is not taller than me. I've still got an inch or so on the little bugger. The picture's just at a weird angle.

We went to City Light Books because Robb had asked me to get a bookmark for him. They didn't have actual bookmarks, but I bought him a postcard. Then I dove into the stacks and didn't reemerge until several hours later. If you want to get me a birthday present or whatever, any of these would be an excellent plan. I read the introductions to all of them and a bit more of some- I was really tempted to get "Living Islam Out Loud," but managed to resist.

Spotted this one on my way out, and Clay was itching to leave, so I didn't get a chance to peruse it. But I'd really like to.

Look both ways before you cross the street!

I picked up a copy of the Onion, and the crossword was by
lunchboy. Of course I had to do it, but I had no writing implement. I did, however, have eyeliner, so that's what we used. Clay and I hadn't gotten very far when Jeffrey called, saying his meeting was over (that's when I took this picture), but we did finish it eventually. This picture contains one error (BID instead of BIT), and let me tell you, eyeliner does not like to be erased. By the way, Francis, I loved the clue for 31-Across.

We met up with Jeffrey at the Stinking Rose, a restaurant that Really Does Garlic.

Clayton, high on the fumes from the jar on our table.

A piece of bread with the same stuff on it. Mmm, garlic.

My food, or what was left of it when I remembered to take a picture. That's the eyeliner we were using for the crossword on the left.

I called
draughanten to tell him about this marquee when I saw it. God, I love San Francisco.

mamagotcha, show this one to Link. (When are we getting him an LJ?)

A really neat fountain. We were standing on cement blocks in the middle of the water. That's Jeffrey in the corner.

Eggheads! I don't think these are the same ones that were at UCD (those are still there, right?) but they still brought back childhood memories. Well, earlier childhood. :P

Another cool fountain.

Date: 2007-03-16 03:31 am (UTC)It is freaky the extent to which you and your sibs look alike. (Not the first time I've noticed this.)
Living Islam Out Loud, Queer Cowboys (!), and Hello I'm Special all look worth reading. *makes a note*
Ohhh, I want to go to The Stinking Rose. I haven't been there since maybe 1994. Boy that looks yummy.
GOT MILF? :)
