I can't believe this is even debatable. I can't believe that in a society we consider civilized, I have to actually present a structured argument against cutting off pieces of babies when they're born.
-sighs- Thank you for just completely going the other way with it. . .
You do realize that most of the "arguments" that you're presenting on the Vatican's behalf are completely antiquated and not even really pushed out anymore?
No offense, but this whole thread seems to be screaming for the tolerance of diversity, and yet b/c some in here don't believe in something, it's automatically wrong? That's not tolerance. . . in fact it's the same argument that most religious extremists use to justify acts of barbarism.
If you don't like religious views, then don't bloody pay attention to them. I don't like Nazi propoganda, so I don't pay attention to it. I realize this is a rather extreme example, but the principle is the same.
As far as reducing sexual pleasure goes, at this point those studies are rather inconclusive.
As far as the health benefits I was talking about go, it's more that it allows for better hygeine in the genital area. And as we all know, poor hygeine leads to disease, etc and I don't necessarily mean HIV and STD's. . .
I am religious, yes, though fairly liberal as some will tell you, and I am for circumcision not for religious reasons, but for medical ones. I would, however, also like to note, that I do not agree with several commonly held "doctrinal beliefs" as I believe that they came not from God, but from men who were scared of what's different. And isn't that what this entire thread is rallying against? And yet I see several instances of exactly that, just going back the other way. Again, no offense. . .
On a more personal and rather graphically lewd note, I am circumsized and I do not hold the opinion that it has ever reduced my sexual pleasure or caused me to masturbate less.
Now I know I'm going to get a SLEW of responses calling me ignorant, backwards, "puritanical", and what-not, but I frankly don't care. . . this is my opinion and I am entitled to it, just as you are to yours. I'm not against anyone having opinions that differ from mine. . . I'm against people who HAVE said opinions persecuting me for opposing them. And that is the definition of tolerance. To say otherwise is rather hypocritical. . . Once again, no offense.
