since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;

wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves,
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don't cry
--the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids' flutter which says

we are for each other; then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life's not a paragraph

And death i think is no parenthesis

e.e. cummings

I think "my blood approves/and kisses are a better fate/than wisdom" is the best way ever of saying "holy CRAP am I going to regret this tomorrow morning." I'll have to remember that one.

Hell, just read all of e.e. cummings. Then move on to all kinds of great poets. William Carlos Williams, maybe. Or C.K. Williams.

I'm too lazy to use span tags

Why
does one want to write a poem?

Because it's there to be written.

Oh. A matter of inspiration then?

Of necessity.

Oh. But what sets it off?

I am that he whose brains

are scattered

aimlessly (86)

I don't like most poetry. I've tried various "great poets," including other work by e.e. cummings, and I've never really gotten into any of it. It was just that line about kisses and wisdom that got me.
