Scene: the kitchen in my dorm

Girl #1: (holding up box of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes and reading the side) Oh, shit. Oh, fuck.
Girl #2: What?
Girl #1: There aren't any directions.

I have always been bemused by the hair care products that instruct users to: "Lather. Rinse. Repeat if necessary." (Emphasis mine).

Surely someone who needs to be told to rinse the shampoo out is in no position to make a judgment call about the advisability of a second application.

okay, yes, I'm being a wet blanket

Why would it be obvious you need to rinse it out? You don't always rinse out conditioner. And it's certainly not obvious you should rinse it out before reapplying.

Anyway, when you're writing instructions at all, you have to write out every step--if you leave out a step, it really does seem like you're leaving it out for a reason.

Even that's not always necessary. Some people (like two-year-olds and certain taste-bud-free boyfriends I could name) eat cereal dry.

We roll that version out in Year Three. Big marketing push.

OMG! Was Cracklin Oat Bran the stuff that looked like dogfood? I LOVE that stuff. There's a reason it has "Crack" in its name.

Hey, now. I put milk on my cereal this morning!

And was extremely sick to my stomach this afternoon!

Go me!
