If I click a link that takes me to Facebook and I'm not logged in, I get sent to a login page, and after I enter my username and password, I get redirected to the page I was trying to view. A bunch of other sites do the same thing. On LJ, it just sends me to the home page. Why is that? I don't know programming, but shouldn't that be reasonably painless to put in?

How painless it is depends on how the site is built, which we the users can't possibly know. It CAN be made doable (obviously) but it may not be built well.

To not do it that way is poor UI, in my opinion.

Actually, I believe the LiveJournal platform may be built on/with Open Source software. Accordingly, one may be able to figure out with the right combination of coding knowledge and time to read the publicly available source.

The edit to make the page redirect was actually recently implemented, but it's not live on the site yet.

Oh, good! Any idea when it will be?

I'm not sure about this; I'm not aware of a set schedule, but I doubt it will be more than two weeks from now and probably will actually be a bit sooner than that.
