People keep lamenting how everyone's moved to Facebook and no one reads LJ anymore, but I haven't really noticed a significant drop in posting/comments. Of course, the people who post and comment aren't necessarily a true sample of those who read, so:

[Poll #1721260]

EDIT: Well, it's been less than half an hour since I posted this and I've already gotten fifteen responses to this poll. I'm pretty satisfied with that as an answer.

I'm on LJ much more than Facebook. Facebook is for real people, and LJ for fandom.

If I had to complain about something, it'd be people moving to Tumblr! lol

See, that's how this LJ account was for me in 2003-2005 or so. Then everyone I knew got an LJ, and I started posting more RL stuff and less fandom stuff, and then I stopped doing fandom stuff altogether for a few years and this journal became totally RL. I created [livejournal.com profile] jedusaur for my fic in 2009 because I didn't want to spam my RL friends.

I can think of a total of one person who has been using LJ less in favor of Tumblr lately. I don't have one, don't read them, don't really know much about them.

LJ has always been about fandom for me. Although for a while I also had a RL LJ, but I haven't written in it for a couple of years now. There are no RL people on my LJ, except for fans whom I met and became RL friends.

I have couple on my Flist who've mentionned their love affaire with Tumblr. And it does seem to be the new place everyone finds their info/pics/gifs/whatever. Fortunately it's still getting reposted, so I'm confident that if something noteworthy surfaces on Twitter someone will end up posting it here and I don't have to adapt to evolving times and continue to be the old dinosaur I sometimes feel like I am! *g*

Yeah, I guess Tumblr is probably more relevant to fans who actually follow the bands. Me, I'm in it for the fic. Canon relevance is nice but not at all necessary, and I don't read any primary sources of celebrity news. Well, actually, now that I think about it, I do read a few bandom Twitters. But that's not anything to do with slash fandom, those are people who entertain me for their own sake (Gabe for his hilarious drunken antics, Patrick for his awesome music recs, Ryan for his sheer glorious WTFery (http://twitter.com/#!/thisisryanross/status/42721216401915904)).

I'm reading everything on LJ but I'm in FB in real time. With LJ I'm usually at least a day behind.

I prioritize LJ above Facebook, although I don't read either of them in real time. Also, I just noticed that I always abbreviate LJ and spell out Facebook. Maybe it's an indication of intimacy. I've been with LJ for seven years--Facebook is just a fling, I don't really care. :P

Well Facebook is also a lot more promiscuous... with your info

I hate facebook. hate. hate. hate. All it is is a bad twitter feed filled with people talking about the unexpected pitfalls of toilet training their children.

Well, that depends on the sort of people you have friended. I have friends who post interesting things on Facebook, and I have friends who post about toilet training on LJ. I like the Facebook newsfeed for links better than Twitter, because there's more of a preview, but neither of them is anything like as awesome as LJ.

I alos like how much more indepth and personal lj is, and how much more pleasant it feels. There's also an air of pretentiousness on facebook, as if we're still living our high school cliques and posting only the amazing life achievement type items.

LJ feels like a safer, more comfortable space and because I'm so much pickier about my friendslist (as opposed to the way you feel like you have to friend everyone on facebook), things here seem more real.

I definitely agree that the pickiness of flist selection makes a difference to the content on LJ. Also, I know Facebook says you can filter things, but I actually trust LJ's filters.

I read LJ. I comment on others' LJ posts about as often as before. But I don't post on LJ more than occasionally anymore. It's not really that Facebook replaced it outright - I went through a year of very muted online presence - but that's about the effect of it.

It's hard for me to accurately gauge posting frequency, since the composition of my flist changes so gradually. It's possible that there are a lot of people still reading but posting less frequently. (Me, I will be spamming LJ long after no one's paying attention anymore.)

I definitely think that people are reading but not posting as often or at all. LJ posts are still easily referenced in RL conversations with people I haven't seen post here in months.

*raises hand* I read LJ almost every day, I haven't posted in a very very long time. Possibly a year. But I'm still here!!! :)

Oh hey. I should clarify my answer WRT your post topic. I haven't moved more of my activity to Facebook; I've just been getting less active online in general. And I want to be online *even less* than I am. I am way too good at dumping hours into flash games when I could be, idk, writing a story or practicing something or whatever. I've been trying to cut waaay down on computer usage, and my checking-of-social-networks has taken a hit as a result.

Yeah, that makes sense. I've been wanting to cut down on internet time too. But if I cut down enough to eat into social networking stuff, I'd start with Twitter, then Facebook, then LJ. I would probably cut out Twitter and Facebook completely before skipping any LJ posts.

I've never been one to post often whether it is Facebook, LJ, or whatever. But I do still post on LJ and I am reading it all the time.

If I had a desk job that allowed me the down-time to read the Intarwebz all day, then I'd totally read Facebook. But since nobody has yet invented an industrial sewing machine with wireless capabilities, I read LJ.

Oh, also there is the detail that LJ allows people to post content in complete sentences and in paragraph form, and I kind have a thing for literati.
