wtf, Vista
May. 24th, 2011 05:09 pmDoes anyone know how to make the sound icon show on the notifications taskbar in Vista if the "volume" checkbox under "properties" is greyed out? Why would it be greyed out in the first place? How is it even possible for a UI to suck this damn much?
ETA: Figured it out. The solution was not only extremely unintuitive, it was also needlessly complex and time-intensive. Jesus, I hate Vista.

Date: 2011-05-25 12:27 am (UTC)I can access the sound controls through the control panel, and sound still works on the computer. It's just the sound icon on the taskbar is gone. I would expect to be able to just drag the sound icon from the control panel to the taskbar, but unfortunately Vista sucks.

Date: 2011-05-25 04:52 am (UTC)I think.
but yeah, randomly every now and then the volume control vanishes. you have to edit the registry & restart to get it back. I downloaded a thingy which patches it.
this happens often enough that I keep the thingy on my desktop. (The only other icons there: Itunes, ssh tech, firefox, dropbox, & my code directory). uh. get used to it.
