I always will remember,
'Twas a year ago November,
I went out to hunt some deer
On a morning bright and clear.
I went and shot the maximum the game laws would allow,
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
I was in no mood to trifle,
I took down my trusty rifle
And went out to stalk my prey.
What a haul I made that day.
I tied them to my fender, and I drove them home somehow,
Two game wardens, seven hunters, and a cow.
The law was very firm, it
Took away my permit,
The worst punishment I ever endured.
It turned out there was a reason,
Cows were out of season,
And one of the hunters wasn't insured...
People ask me how I do it
And I say there's nothing to it
You just stand there looking cute,
And when something moves, you shoot!
And there's ten stuffed heads in my trophy room right now,
Two game wardens, seven hunters, an a pure-bred Guernsey cow.

Today was okay, aside from mouthing off to my French teacher. She told us to close our books, then a minute later asked, "Is that how it says it in the book?" and I answered, "We don't know, our books are closed." She didn't like that. I downloaded the Common Application last night, and it had two teacher evaluation forms, so I asked Ms. Harrington to fill one out today. I was going to have Madame Brandt do the other one, but I decided today wasn't the best day to ask. There was also a Statement of Good Standing for the dean of students to send, and I took that up to the fifth floor. My SAT scores are up on the website, but the score report isn't yet, so I have no idea what the numbers mean. I did some Google searching, but everything I found was for the SAT I, not the Subject Tests. I'll get the score report on the 18th, though.
I'm doing better. Everything still reminds me of Evan (that song- he liked hunting) but I'm not randomly bursting out crying at inopportune moments anymore. Mom decided to stay in New York for a few more days, which means she'll miss Valentine's Day and the Casablanca/Korma Sutra date she and Bill had planned. He's pretty bummed about that, but he understands why she needs to stay and support her sister.
Anybody want to get together tomorrow to celebrate being single? We could rent Down With Love or something, although I suspect that one ends with Renee Zellweger's character discovering that love isn't so bad after all.
EDIT: If anybody reads Metanoia, I wrote an entry for the Valentine's Day contest. (Don't bother reading it if you don't read the comic, it won't make any sense at all.)

Date: 2006-02-14 06:23 pm (UTC)Tell Bill your internet girlfriend approves of his taste in music. (Well, needn't necessarily be in those words...)
Have you heard much other Lehrer? Aside from not being teh screamy ( ;) ), it might appeal to you. I think.
Best of luck with the applications and SATs results and so forth; I'm in much the same boat: I've sent off my sixth form application and amn't able to do anything but wait for dates for interview.
Yeah, Down With Love ends up as the cheese, but it amused me anyway.

So, uh, what exactly does "sixth form" mean? Is that like sixth year in Harry Potter? *is still hopelessly American*

Date: 2006-02-15 12:41 am (UTC)I was considering using a Harry Potter analogy; yeah, okay, then.
Right.
OWLs are the equivalent of GCSEs, which I'm taking at the moment- by the public school system, I'd be in fifth year/form. As I go to a state school, I'm in year 11.
However.
Everyone, everywhere calls years 12 and 13- sixth and seventh years in Harry Potter- "sixth form" collectively, divided into lower and upper sixth.
NEWTs are kind of the equivalent of A-levels, except A-levels are divided into AS-levels (advanced subsiduary) and A2, with the former being worth half an A-level and the A2 fulfilling the requirements.
AS-levels tend to be sat in the lower sixth, but an extra one can be taken on in upper sixth.
That confusing enough yet? :)

Date: 2006-02-15 11:17 am (UTC)GCSEs are graded A*-G (plus U, for unmarked, i.e. fail) and are also taken over two years- prep begins in year 10 (so coursework, and so on) and continues through year 11. As the British academic year is September - July (sorry, I've no clue what you guys do), examinations tend to be sat over the May - July period.
The government target is for all pupils to achieve five GCSEs in the A*-C range. Most schools allow their pupils to take a maximum of 10. By dint of taking two GCSEs early and another extra-curricularly, I'm going to end up with around 14 GCSEs at A* and A grades. :p [This bit *is* relevant, promise... well, only because I want to bounce about my A-levels.]
Most people go on to take four AS-levels in lower sixth, then drop one subject and continue on with three A2s (with the option of choosing an AS in another subject), giving them a total of three A-levels. [Public schools are obviously an exception to this - see
Me, I took one AS last year (in German).
And in lower sixth, I want to take five AS-levels (Double Mathematics [taught as 1.5 subjects, rather than two, though it results in two certificates], Chemistry, Physics, Latin) plus one A2 (German), then continue on with all of them (aside from the German, obviously) at A2. This is... technically possible to fit in the timetable, but means I'll have ONG NO LIFE due to the workload, and will be in school from 9 a.m. to 4:20 p.m. every day. Sooooo... yeah. That'll be fun. :p
