They've got my application. I checked the status online and saw a couple of things that concerned me a bit (like that it said they didn't have one of the forms that I'm positive I included in the application), but I sent them an e-mail and everything should be okay soon. Hopefully.

There's a new Spectrum issue out. I've got five articles in this one, or rather four and one co-written one:
Advocacy Day, written with Sharai.
The Great Quail Debate, a headline which they unfortunately did not use.
Separation of church and state, based on my reaction to all the religion I saw in the state capital.
Hair dye, something I wrote in ten minutes because I hadn't gone to Jefferson City yet and I needed to turn in an article.

And, of course, the Scott Church interview.

I didn't write any of the headlines, and the misspelling of "artist" in the last one is not my fault. I will try to get that changed ASAP.

EDIT: Oh, and [livejournal.com profile] palecur- please note that I used the word "flouted" correctly in the church/state article.

EDIT THE SECOND: [livejournal.com profile] scottchurch is just about the only person on the planet besides [livejournal.com profile] cfb4629 who can get away with calling me "princess."

wow, prin... er, jules! you are a much more pithy writer than i am. i wish that interview had been longer, but you still got a lot in there.

Well, you and Aunt Amanda are the only ones allowed to call me "Jules," so it all evens out :)

Like I said last night, the format makes it look shorter than it is. It's about two pages in a Word document, 12-point font.

Oh, dear. I didn't notice that. I'll have to mention it to Sharai; that was one of her lines.

Glad you liked them!

The Great Quail Debate made me laugh.

Good interview! Is there a reason the heading says "Artisit Profile"?

All those pieces are so clearly you. I was hearing your voice in my head while I read them. o.O

Good, it was supposed to.

Yeah, because our editing process is a mess. I already saw it and e-mailed Craig about it, but I don't know if anything can be done about it now. *sigh*

Yeah, I have a pretty distinct newspaper-writing style. I'm told that my fiction style is distinct too, but I have a harder time seeing that, because I write about so much different stuff in so many different ways. Speaking of which, I have a braindump piece from last night to bring to writing group.

How hard is it for them to go onto a website and change a letter? o_O

I might bring some braindump, too. At the moment, I don't care about writing something "good." I just want "spelled right" and maybe "semi-coherent." *sigh*

Craig doesn't like changing an article once it's up, and he has to be on a specific computer to do it, and I have to catch him before he burns the issue to disc because he won't change ANYTHING after that. It should be all better now, though.

Hah, I find it amusing that you prefer "spelled right" over "semi-coherent." We grammar nazis, huh?

He's not much of a perfectionist, I take it?

I find it impossible to continue typing if I see a typo and don't immediately fix it. It *has* to be spelled right above all else. XP

I think my problem with writer's block is that I want it to be perfect. I'm more serious about it, because it hit me that I could try to get published some day. And now I'm having issues doing it just because it's fun. Someone smack me.

One of the most important things a writer has to learn is that editing comes later. Trust me, I have the same problem. I've gotten a bit better about revising- I used to never revise at all, thinking that if I didn't get it right the first time, I never would. Also, you have to be careful about going back to something you've already begun- you can never reread it, or you get caught up in editing and end up not writing at all.

We grammar nazis have it tough, huh?

I can't believe I don't have a grammar nazi icon.

Editing, I'm learning to leave until later. But I just can't leave typos. I tried it once, and when I went back over it, I couldn't always tell what the words were supposed to be. Which is a Bad Thing. >>;

*sigh* Me, too. I hate the little squiggly lines in Word, even when I know what I'm typing is a word. Like "homeschool." Word says that "homeschool" isn't a word.

Can't you add it to the dictionary? I use OpenOffice, and it lets me modify its dictionary. Which comes in handy when I'm using Japanese names that it insists aren't real.
