CA Trip, Installment 5
Mar. 18th, 2007 10:27 pmYesterday, we went to Golden Gate Park. That was the plan, anyway. I ended up spending so much time sifting through all the shiny shops on Haight Street that I had to head back to BART before we reached the park.

Clay and I passed balls for a while on BART, but the car soon became too crowded.

We stepped off the train and into the St. Patrick's Day parade. Whoops.

We saw a mailbox dressed up as R2-D2. Mom saw one in Kansas City, too. Bill suggested that it's a promotion for SW:VII, to which Mom quipped that the postal service couldn't do any worse a job with it than Lucas did with I-III. (And now we know what the PO in C-3PO stands for.)

This was the coolest shop ever. Walking into it, I felt like I used to feel when I dumped out my dressup container to play with clothes. I found some corsets and hats and stuff that I would definitely have tried on if I'd been alone. Sigh. Veronica liked it too- that's her in the bottom of the picture.

I gave them a dollar because I liked the sign. One of them offered me a swig from his Guinness-filled CamelBak. I politely declined.

I didn't need the coat I'd brought to SF on Thursday, so I didn't bring one yesterday. That turned out to be not so great an idea, and I was freezing in my T-shirt, so I bought a long-sleeved tie-dye shirt.

I took this while I was sitting at the bus stop. I have no idea who was installing toilets, but the owners of the building clearly weren't happy about it.

Reminds me of that "ts'i mahnu uterna ot tyr ot geifur hingts uto" T-shirt.
I BARTed to see
rebbyribs, and then we went to the Equinox puzzle party.

I got to meet baby Iris, who was wearing a kickass onesie for the holiday.

After some initial fussiness involving a combination of Random Purple-haired Person Appearing and Insufficiently Dry Undergarments, she warmed up to me.

I held her while Becca and Ben made cookies to bring to the party. Ben: "I'm assuming this is baking soda because it says 'Almond Butter' on it."

A random car we saw on the street. I love the Bay Area.

The party was very fun, though not as NPLish as I remember it being when I used to go with Mom. I don't think anybody used their noms except me. But the puzzles were good, especially
rubrick's poetry thing and Trazom's word-coupling thing, the latter of which I brought home for Mom and Bill to do.

We played Charades with words and phrases containing the word "pat," to celebrate the occasion. This is "up a tree." Others included "paternity suit" and "apathy."

I went out to eat with a few people afterward. This is Fred, who has had less hair each successive time I've seen him for at least a year now.

I went back to Dublin past midnight, and had a conversation with a couple of very drunk young men. They made a variety of homophobic comments, mostly directed at each other, and looked like they were about to jump into each other's pants when I got off the train. This one told me that the item he is holding in the picture is a gift for his grandmother.
I got about five hours of sleep, then hopped on a plane home. I slept for most of the trip. I'm glad I'm not one of those people who can't sleep on planes.

The security line looped around...

...past a vending machine for flowers...

...through a tunnel...

...into the baggage area...

...past the conveyors...

...outside...

...all the way past the pickup area and almost into the construction.

On the plane, Clay looked out the window, saw this, and said it looked like a default desktop background for OSX. Clearly, the child needs to get out more.
I'm now back in Kansas City, and going back to school and work tomorrow. This trip was utterly fabulous in pretty much every way. Thank you so much to everyone who took some time to hang out with me; it was really awesome to see you all!
