Home, sweet home! And it really does feel like being home. I've missed California so much.

I took this picture from my front yard. I still can't believe it. But I'm not way out in the middle of nowhere- I'm within biking distance of four towns (two of them decent-sized), a library, a lovely cafe with free wireless, a few parks, and a university.

This is Grandma's little garden. I like taking Scorpius (my new laptop) out there in the evenings. There's a ton of fresh fruit out there, too- I can pick grapes, tomatoes, apples, and two kinds of plums, and there are a bunch of herbs too. And I think a lime tree, or maybe just an unripe lemon tree.

This is Hobo. He likes running away from the house, but usually gets distracted by interesting things to sniff fairly quickly, so he's not too much trouble to retrieve.

My room, post-bunk-bed-removal. I wish I'd taken a picture right when I got there, so you could really see the difference.

Nonetheless, I think I've made a few improvements.

Note the kickass lamp.

Grandpa on his scooter. He moves at a rate of about ten feet a minute with his cane, but when he gets on that thing, I have to run to keep up. This is at an outlet mall in Petaluma, where we went this morning and I spent too much on nifty things.

The coolest shoes EVER. (Well, second-coolest. The coolest ones are undeniably these.)

The laces that came with those shoes always slip off, so I bought two pairs of new ones and played mix-and-match.

I bought this shirt not because I like the slogan (which I do) but because it is unbelievably comfortable. My Threadless "Screamo" shirt and the Domino promo shirt are the only other ones I own that come anywhere near this one in terms of comfort.

It's a flamingo wallet. I couldn't resist. And my purple duct-tape one, while it has served me well, was falling apart. I bought a belt too, a black-and-white checkered one with a pouch. And the whole haul only cost me fifty bucks. More than I should have spent, but much less than it was worth. (I could've gotten another pair of Converse for ten more bucks, but none of the others jumped out at me and I have enough shoes.)

The rocker and desk are even cooler than what you bought. I like the socks too.

Wow, your room looks amazing now!

Your shoes have giant fingerprints on them!

Yes! You will see them in person tomorrow! :D

I had big plans for that desk... but the wireless I'm using doesn't extend to that room. Oh, well. I can still use it for writing.

I think I got these socks at Foot Traffic in Kansas City. It's a very cool sock store, and you can order online.

Thanks! That picture was carefully aimed to avoid the pile of Grandma's stuff I still need to get out of there and the five boxes I haven't unpacked because their contents are supposed to go into the closet, which is packed with more of Grandma's stuff. But we'll clear it out eventually.

Aren't those shoes neat? They were on sale for twenty bucks. I couldn't resist.

Did you know I made that nightstand in woodshop, when I was about 16? The one the very cool lamp is on...

Fingerprint shoes! Very cool... wonder whose prints they are?

You should mention that Hobo is a beagle/Great Dane mix. That always impresses people.

Your room looks wonderful! What a nice santuary... and I see you have the music stand up. Are you playing any?

Love ya... so glad you're having a great time!

I did not know that! Thanks, though. It has served me well so far.

I wondered that myself, but Google's not being helpful. Maybe someday if I'm bored, I'll call the company and find out.

I think I mentioned that about Hobo in an earlier post, but I'm not sure.

Yesterday, I was listening to something on my iPod that I was inspired to try to play on the violin, and I pulled it out, and the E string had broken! There's a music shop in Cotati; I'll take it there next week. (I would just buy the string and do it myself, but somehow, in the 10+ years I've been playing, I've never had occasion to do that and thus am freaked out that I'd screw it up.)

I love you too!

Was the broken string due to the shipping? Or just age? Is there anything else wrong with your violin? I'd be willing to help get it restrung if needed. (Better yet, have the store folks teach you how to do it... how did you go this long and not replace a string?!)

Nope, it's fine. Strings break sometimes. And I have no idea. I guess I've just never played regularly enough to wear them out.

Love the flamingo wallet and the shoes are interesting. Nice to see the pictures of your room and the stand that your mom made is very nice. How wonderful to have the fresh fruit in the yard.

Julia-boobs! I have missed them. ...I mean, haha, funny shirt.

That is a kickass lamp. And a kickass house. Why are CA houses all so awesome?

Why have I not yet seen pictures of this boobtastic red velvet shirt you mentioned, hmm?

It's on Facebook. I was pretty sure you were one of the several people who commented with nothing but "BOOBS!" Did I just misread someone's name?

OH. The other red velvet shirt. Well, because there aren't any pictures yet. I seem to remember having a strained hip the day I wore it, and being too exhausted to get anyone to take pictures. ;) But I'm planning another trip to the Ren Fest, and will get pictures then. It's not boobtastic, though.
