I should have studied biology instead. Apart from the one bit with the prisoner on the ferry, I think I would have enjoyed studying more than I enjoyed the movie. It was too long, disjointed, unoriginal, overblown, and Heath Ledger wasn't that great. I'm glad I didn't wait for the theater run and pay money for it. I have no idea what everyone was so excited about.

On the plus side, it's been raining all day, so I got to jump in puddles on the way back to my dorm. So there's that.

I hope all those puddles haven't turned to ice overnight. And I hope you have power. I'm in a pouring rain still here.

We're good on power, but yeah, rain pretty much hasn't stopped in days. I am cool with that, though! I love Massachusetts weather.

I wasn't a fan of the movie, but I did think Ledger did a great job. It was outside of his usual comfort zone, and he was able to portray someone with that kind of serious psychosis really quite well. I believed his character was crazy when I watched him; something I was not able to do with Nicholson's Joker.

The movie itself though... I felt like they tried to cram two movies into one - by cut-and-paste - and I actually felt like the bit with the prisoner on the ferry was very trite. I liked Batman Begins much better.

I saw "Batman Begins," but I wouldn't be able to give you an assessment--I spent the whole movie making out with my then-boyfriend. (My excuse is having been fifteen.)

I thought Heath was great, but neither of the Batman movies do much for me. Plus I'm really distracted by the way Christian Bale talks. It's weird.

heh. i got home last night, and my babysitting friend was watching the Dark Knight at our house. Needless to say, i stayed up with her until it was over. Which was, basically, forever. I got there right before the one dude got set on fire, and we both figured the movie would soon end. But, no, an eternity later, the conclusion was entirely unsatisfying.
Add to my gripes the widely variable volume, which meant sometimes it was too loud, and other times you couldn't hear, the annoying way they dicked around with Batman's voice, and the fact that it was so DARK (from a lighting perspective) and DARK (from an emotional perspective.

I don't know what i would think if i had watched it from the beginning, but, now i'm not sure i will be able to make myself.

It's a superhero movie that doesn't think of itself as a superhero movie - it thought of itself as a movie, full stop. But there was a lot to it that meant if someone such as yourself wasn't going into it prepared for certain aspects and tropes, it'd disappoint. I think you've said you don't like action movies. I could be wrong about that, but if that sort of thing isn't to your taste, this wouldn't have been either.

The source material and storyline and characters were very much of the classic Batman stories, such as The Long Halloween and Dark Victory. I know having knowledge about Batman helped a lot too.

See, that's what I'd heard it was, and that's what I hoped it would be, but I found it to be very much a superhero movie. I don't mind action movies as long as there's a good plot--I loved the first Matrix, for example.
