IF YOU ARE GOING TO WALK UP THE ESCALATOR, YOU DO IT ON THE LEFT.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO STAND ON THE ESCALATOR, YOU DO IT ON THE RIGHT. WITH YOUR LUGGAGE, SMALL CHILDREN, AND ALL APPENDAGES ALSO ON THE RIGHT.

IT IS NOT THAT HARD, PEOPLE. SERIOUSLY.

This is how they knew we were Americans in Japan--that and all the J-walking.

Not if you're on the escaltor at a T station. Then it's just catch-as-catch-can, and hope you've got all your fingers when it's over. *headdesk*

Ohh that's like people at the supermarket parking their cart on one side and standing next to it.

Would you please come here and yell this in any BART station you want to, any time you like?

Please?

And, yes, to that supermarket aisle thing.

On the London Underground, there are "Stand on Right" signs all along most of the escalators.

People ignore them, but at least it gives you something to point at while shouting.

In Japan, they do it the opposite of that (stand on left), they're pretty strict. You stand out REALLY fast if you're on the wrong side.

Except in Osaka. Osaka likes to be different, so there everyone stands on the right.
