I can't write in anything but Times New Roman. I think most of the books I read when I was small used that or similar serif fonts, so that was the font my brain used when I started seeing everything I thought or perceived as descriptions on a page in my mind. Now that's how words are to me, and whether it's fiction or homework, my writing just doesn't flow unless it's in that font.

But every time I open up Word, it's set to Cambria, and it's driving me nuts to scroll down the font menu all the way to the Ts every time I want to write anything. Is there a way to reset the default font in Word?

(This post brought to you by a combination of mild OCD and my weird brand of synesthesia.)

EDIT: Never mind. I knew it had to be in one of those obvious places.

Er, drive-by comment. If you go to the Format menu, choose "Font" and then in some part of the box that appears there should be a button "Default..."--click it to change your default font back to Times New Roman. (I'm on a mac with Word 2004, though, so it might be in a different place for you.)

I'm with you on the font thing, though. I can't write in anything other than TNR.

Ha, so it's NOT just me! Once in awhile I get the urge to write in Courier, because it looks like a typewriter font, but in general it has to be TNR or I just cannot think. I thought I was just weird.

Possibly we are both just weird! Do you do that thing where you see everything as descriptions on a page in your head? It was more pronounced when I was younger, but it's still how I think when I'm paying attention to my thoughts.

But! But… ITC Garamond! New Century Schoolbook! Palatino!

I can read in other fonts, and I can write in Times New Roman and then change it to a different font. It's just that the thoughts in my head are in Times New Roman, so when I'm trying to express them, I need to do it in that font or it doesn't feel right.

I tend to cling very much to Tahoma or Arial in <10pt. Because it looks like my handwriting. Ish. TNR is icky, though. :p
