WHO was lovely, but I can't tell you guys much about it, since it's going to be run again in the Bay Area in November. So here's the censored version of my photo set from the event, with a few of Carrie's photos mixed in. I've left out all my pictures of locations that were thematic for their corresponding puzzles. (A few of these are oddly sized because I cropped out spoilers.)

Photobucket

Chilling at Carrie and Nick's before the event. They have an impressive TV/computer setup here.

Photobucket

The horde of white vans at each puzzle site got a little creepy after a while.

Photobucket

[livejournal.com profile] selinker shows off his extremely event-appropriate shirt.

Photobucket

At the opening dinner.

Photobucket

The view from our hotel room.

Photobucket

Not sure if [livejournal.com profile] rhysara wants the reason for her friend's expression in this photo to be made public, but rest assured it was hilarious.

Photobucket

I think this team was called The Beevil League of Beevil. Mike misread it as "The Weevil League of Weevil," which I think would have been funnier.

Photobucket

One puzzle took place in this teapot.

Photobucket

Solving under the only available shelter.

Photobucket

Team Briny Deep apparently does this at every Game. I thought it was cute. They also wore pirate outfits the whole weekend.

Photobucket

Snoqualmie Falls was pretty awesome.

Photobucket

My team, Do Not Bounce. These folks are great. Would co-solve with again.

Photobucket

This is what Carrie looks like when a puzzle becomes relevant to her interests.

Photobucket

You can't really see how steep this was, but it was no fun whatsoever to navigate. Mike got covered in mud, and the rest of us got spattered too.

Photobucket

Briny Deep forgot to weigh anchor before setting off for the next puzzle, and crushed the hell out of the poor thing. I saw it later, patched up with duct tape.

Photobucket

Mike fuels his brain with chocolate.

Photobucket

Being evil. Mike really only managed "vaguely uncomfortable," and I think my evil cackle ended up as more of a giggle.

Photobucket

TK hangs out in the van, waiting for the next puzzle.

Photobucket

This has to be my favorite picture from the whole event. CREEEEEEPY.

Photobucket

I think this team actually did the Game without a van.

Photobucket

The view from one of the locations.

Photobucket

This is what I actually saw for the majority of the weekend.

Photobucket

Heh. (Not related to the event.)

Photobucket

Carl had a... laser shark? I do not know.

Photobucket

Winding down after the end of the event.

What magazine? *scrolls through photos* P&A? Yeah, a friend of mine puts that together. I don't solve it regularly, but my boyfriend (obviously) does.

*appends "especially if they're willing/able to work around a lanyard obscuring parts of it" to the message*

When I got to the photo of Briny's anchor, I said to myself "There's no way I would remember to pull that thing in before driving off." Then I kept scrolling.

Yeah you guys were way ahead of us, a few of those locations we did not see in daylight.

Also, wow that is a hysterical photo of Amy. Apparently she managed to learn all my secrets before the event even started.

There's also this one (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v135/jedusor/Events/WHO/IMG_6762.jpg), but I liked her expression in the other one better. :P

Do you mind if I repost that picture of my traumatized teammate in my WHO writeup

Yeah, looks like I didn't take any pictures while it was dark. Nightfall hit just after we left the puzzle on the dock, and lifted just before we got to the one in Fremont. (Our team got stuck for a LONG time at the one on the trail.)

We got stuck on the game store puzzles for a long long long long time - over three hours. Unfortunately it meant by the time we solved them, we were so far behind that they skipped us over the kidnapping puzzle and the one in the woods.

This was particularly frustrating as we'd made up crazy, crazy time on the bank puzzle and the squid one and were solidly in the middle of the pack going into it.

By the time we finished that set and got skipped on the others (which from the sound of it were the kind of thing we're actually good at, we were demoralized and we didn't recover for awhile. Add in a computer crash and the loss of our data two hours into the victorian's puzzle and we gave up competing in favor of limping along at the back of the herd and making friends with other teams.

You forget, I do Mystery Hunt with a team of 15 people, we're used to being demoralized ;)

I don't think I'd actually met him in person before this event, although he's been my Facebook friend for years. I started going to cons after he stopped. He's a great team member, I like him a lot.
